Bank Rakyat Collaborates with UPM to Enhance Employee Well-being and Prevent Back Pain

Kuala Lumpur, 17 June 2023 - Bank Rakyat has realized that many of their tasks require employees to be at their desks for long periods, leading to a decrease in productivity and the risk of Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSD). Therefore, Bank Rakyat has trained its employees to prevent back pain by collaborating with
Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). Acting as the intermediary, the Centre of Industrial Relations and
Network (CiRNeT) is responsible for finding suitable trainers for this program, and Profesor Shamsul
Bahri Hj Md Tamrin, Director of CiRNeT, was selected as the trainer due to his expertise in the field of
ergonomics.

This training will take place in 10 series from June to September, involving 250 participants from Bank

Rakyat branches throughout Malaysia. They will be taught knowledge and skills to improve their well-
being and reduce the risk of back pain in the workplace.

Each training series will be conducted interactively and practically at the Bank Rakyat Twin Towers
from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM. Participants will be taught about MSD symptoms, the effects of MSD, as
well as ergonomic techniques to prevent back pain in the workplace. They will also be given the
opportunity to learn and practice proper posture while working and create a more conducive work
environment.
